The Madras High Court Wednesday granted interim stay on defamation proceedings against Murasoli Selvam, editor and publisher of DMK party's mouthpiece 'Murasoli', in a special court set up exclusively for trial of cases against MPs and MLAs.
Justice R Mahadevan passed the interim order on a plea by Selvam challenging the transfer of the defamation cases filed by the ruling AIADMK against him to the special court, staying further proceedings for a period of two weeks.
In his petition, Selvam said the principal sessions court transferred the defamation cases against him to the special court designated exclusively to hear cases related to MPs and MLAs.
He contended that he was neither an MP nor an MLA.
