Intermittent rains lashed parts of Kashmir for the fourth consecutive day today even as the MeT office predicted another spell of showers towards the weekend due to a fresh western disturbance.
A bright sun shone at the start of the day after night- long rains, providing succour from the cold. However, the cloud cover returned in the afternoon followed by a fresh spell of heavy showers.
Intermittent snowfall in the high-altitude areas and rains in the plains since Friday have resulted in a drop in temperatures.
"A fresh western disturbance is expected to hit the region on March 17 and will remain active for four days. Fairly widespread rains are expected on Friday and Saturday," a spokesman of the MET office said.
The weather is expected to remain dry on Wednesday, he said.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Srinagar rose by four degrees to settle at 14.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal during this part of the season. The minimum temperature here, however, dropped by a degree to settle at 4.6 degrees Celsius.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg, which received over one feet of fresh snowfall in the last four days, was the only place in the valley where the night temperature settled below the freezing point, at minius one degree Celsius.
