Acting on a tip-off, the accused Kalantarzadeh Tezerjani Seyed Ahmad, holding an Iranian passport, was intercepted on Friday at Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport, the official said.
Upon checking his luggage, Ahmad was found possessing 8 kg saffron worth Rs 5.60 lakh, the official said without disclosing any further details.
The accused confessed to have been carrying the saffron in a bid to smuggle it, sources said, adding, the accused was arrested under section 104 of the Customs Act 1962.
