"We have detained a foreign ship 'M V BATIS' of Iran at Essar jetty in Hajira port, as its captain was allegedly found involved in an accident," Police Sub Inspector V J Bharwad of the Surat marine police station said here today.
The accident had claimed two fishermen's lives and also three others went missing. The ship had hit a fishing trawler at 64 nautical miles from Magdalla port near Jafrabad coast of Amreli district, Bharwad said.
The captain of the ship had allegedly hit the Indian fishing trawler three days ago and had also tried to escape, he said.
The marine police has been probing the incident and the foreign ship would remain here until the probe is not completed, he said.
