An Irish national has been arrested at the international airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle 10 kg of gold by concealing it in his jacket.
Andrew arrived by an Emirates flight here from Dubai last night and ten bars of gold were found concealed in his jacket, customs officials said.
He is being questioned, they said.
He is suspected to be a "carrier" linked to a gold smuggling racket allegedly operating between Kerala and the Middle East, they said.
Andrew's arrest came close on the heels of customs in Kochi recently busting a huge racket where gold was being smuggled through the international airport.
