Internet service providers (ISPs) will not be able to connect to websites if they fail to update their network with new software by October 11.
The new software tool is required for decoding websites address.
"Internet will not be able to connect with websites if they are not using updated DNS resolver by October 11," the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Chief Technology Officer (CTO), David Conrad, said today.
Whenever a user types name of any website on the Internet, that name in the back-end gets converted into digital address assigned to the portal and thus the connection gets
established.
ICANN, which manages basic Internet functions, had promised in 2010 that it will change keys used in the process called domain name system resolver to make it more secure in five years.
"Network operators should ensure they have up-to-date software, have enabled DNSSEC and verified that their systems can update their keys automatically or they have processes in place to manually update to the new key... By October 11, 2017," Conrad said.
He said the soft key can be downloaded for free from IANA website and installed in the network of Internet service providers.
