Issue of 45 Indian fishermen held by Lanka figures in LS

The issue of 45 Indian fishermen in the custody of Sri Lankan Navy and Tamil Nadu floods were among the issues raised in the Lok Sabha today.
K Ashok Kumar (AIADMK) said 45 fishermen are in the custody of Sri Lankan Navy.
"Along with boats, they have to be released. There has to be a permanent solution to this," he said, adding, the Centre should intervene so that fishermen are released by Sri Lanka.
Besides, he also demanded release of Rs 1,520 crore fund for deep sea fishing.
"The Centre should immediately release funds to the state for developing deep sea fishing," he said.
V Elumalai (AIADMK) demanded the release of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre for special housing scheme in Tamil Nadu affected by floods recently.
The government should also provide Rs 5,000 crore for meet food requirment of the state, he said.
Another AIADMK member S Rajendran said floods in Tamil Nadu have also affected fishermen community.
About 65,000 fishermen has been affected, prawn culture industry has been negatively impacted.
"The Governemnt of India should send its team to the state to assess the damage and provide assistance to the fishermen community to the state," he said.
Raising the issue of education loan, P R Senthilnathan (AIADMK) said students are facing problems in getting education loans as banks are asking for collateral.
Besides, banks are not providing loans for courses other than BE and MBBS. There is need to streamline education loan system, he said.
M Srinivas Rao (TDP) made a strong plea for granting special category status to Seemandhra, saying it was needed for the overall development of the state in the wake of division of Andhra Pradesh.
AAP MP Bhagwant Mann demanded Centre's intervention in helping farmers get their money from sugarcane mills.
