The 10-day longfestival, which kicked off here on Tuesday, offers a range of diverse programmes for all writers and online publishers.
The festival has armed itself with visionary talent from Australia and around the world to explore the theme of revolutions: past, present and future, said festival director Lisa Dempster.
"Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) will explore the darkness of discrimination, oppression and war, but the programme is threaded through with hope," Dempster said.
MWF 2017will tackle some of the biggest issues facing modern India, exploring politics, colonialism, rape culture and diversity in the world's largest democracy, a statement said.
IndianauthorsShashi Tharoor, Barkha Dutt, Meena Kandasamy and Anosh Irani will also feature in the festival among otherinternational guests.
Tharoor, Dutt and Kandasamy will also come together to deliver a powerful session on politics and religion in 'The Fifth Estate: Hindu Nationalism in India on September 1st'.
MWF is an annual, ten-day literary festival held in the Australian city of Melbourne, a UNESCO City of Literature. Founded in 1986, the festival runs across late August and early September each year in the cultural heart of the city at Federation Square.
