The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) today claimed that the absence of its Goa chief Valanka Alemao from the state during an election campaign is "not a good thing".
Goa IYC observer Utkarsha Rupwate told reporters here today that "running away" during election time is not a good thing to do for any leader.
"Personally, I am not happy with the decision, but it is her own choice," Rupwate said.
Churchill Alemao's daughter Valanka Alemao who was denied a Congress ticket from the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency has excused herself from campaigning in Goa and is in Delhi.
Rupwate said that Alemao has cited "personal reasons" to stay away from Goa.
Responding to a question, she said that Valanka's absence from Goa would not affect the Congress much, since the entire Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (GPYCC) team is campaigning for both the Congress candidates.
Speaking to PTI on Tuesday, Valanka had said that she has abstained from campaigning in Goa to avoid the blame that she could face, after her father Churchill Alemao filed his nomination from the South Goa Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress had recently suspended four GPYCC office bearers for "anti-party activities" in the run up to Lok Sabha elections.
Rupwate also hinted at more suspensions soon, claiming that she had been taking note of certain things during the campaigning.
