The Jammu and Kashmir government today approved implementation of Victim Compensation Scheme in the state.
The state Cabinet, which met here under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, approved implementation of the scheme, an official spokesman said.
The decision was taken following Supreme Court's intervention in the matter wherein it had asked the state governments in coordination with the Centre to prepare schemes in terms of 357-A of the CrPC providing for compensation to the victims of crime, particularly acid attacks and also consider making appropriate provisions for regulation of sale of acids, he said.
Accordingly, under the scheme the state government has created Victim Compensation Fund to pay compensation to the victim or dependent, who suffer loss or injury due to crime and require rehabilitation.
The government will allot budget and the J-K State Legal Services Authority would operate funds, the spokesman said.
The Cabinet also approved the reinstatement of study leave rules and deletion of SRO-notification 299, where under training courses beyond eight weeks where not to be considered for deputation.
The Cabinet gave a nod to the creation of 38 posts in Employment Department of various categories by corresponding reduction of 14 posts, the spokesman said.
The Cabinet cleared the creation of six posts of Superintendents of Police.
