The 15-km long four-lane concrete road, with a life of nearly 20 years, would help in eliminating disruption to tourist season in Kashmir Valley since the annual road repairs will be done away with, officials said.
"Dal Lake is one of the main tourist attractions in Kashmir Valley and visitors face inconvenience due to deterioration of road conditions during winter as repairs can only be carried out during peak tourism season," they said.
Tenders for the construction of the road will be floated by the end of next month, they said.
The Public Works Department is also planning to have dedicated cycling lane alongside the road which will be first of its kind in the state.
