Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today unanimously passed a resolution asking the Centre to conduct a time-bound and transparent inquiry into former Army Chief V K Singh's allegations about payoffs to mainstream politicians of the state.
"This House unanimously resolves that the allegations levelled by retired Army chief, V K Singh, should be inquired in a time-bound and transparent manner," read the resolution which was passed at the end of the two-day discussion over the issue.
Speaking on the discussion, Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather said the Centre should take action against the former Army Chief and "there is no other option".
"No other person in the history of the state legislature has been criticised here as Singh has been. Every member spoke against him and so it is evident that he has done something wrong," he said, adding Singh had lend credence to the critics of democracy.
The minister said no one can afford to remain silent on the issue and demanded stern action against Singh.
Rather said no one has denied what the media report said and even Singh's sympathisers - BJP- did not say that he did not do anything wrong.
"Even the BJP did not say he did a right thing. They just said this should not have been revealed. Singh himself did not deny anything," he said.
Rather said a Privilege Motion has already been moved in the House which the Chairman referred to a Privilege Committee, which will take a legal view on it.
"But we have the powers. Let the Privilege Committee consult legal experts and the Chairman has the right to call him (Singh)," he said.
