Jail deputy superintendent shot at by gunmen in Punjab

A Deputy Superintendent of modern jail here was shot at and injured by two motorcycle- borne assailants at Variyana village on the Kapurthala- Jalandhar road, police said today.
Vikramjit Pantha was returning home along with his wife in their car from Jalandhar last night when unidentified miscreants shot rounds of bullets, police said.
One of the bullet hit Vikramjit on his left leg, police said, adding that he was operated at a hospital here and was stated to be stable.
Police have registered a case against unidentified motorcycle-borne youths who fled from the spot.
