"Three inmates, including one who was serving a life term, escaped from the prison late last night by scaling the walls with the help of a pipe and a rope," Special Secretary (Home) Arun Kumar Mishra told reporters.
Among the escaped inmates is one Shakir Ali who was serving a life sentence in a murder case.
The two remaining inmates are Rakesh alias Tandoori, an accused in rape and murder case, and Sanju, another rape accused.
Mishra said that jail superintendent RN Pandey, jailor AK Pandey and deputy jailors Rakesh Verma and AK Jha have been suspended by the state government for the incident into which a probe has been ordered.
