Jayachandran, an English teacher and living in Maldives since 2007, was arrested on April 5 for allegedly abusing a student in his class.
A visibly upset Jayachandran today said that though school authorities had told him that he would only be questioned and let off but he was arrested and forced to share a cell with five others.
"This experience has shattered me mentally," he said unable to hide his tears.
Jayachandran's wife Jyothi along with BJP State President, V Muraleedharan, had earlier met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to press for his release.
