Those seeking admission to BTech and BArch programmes offered by Jamia Millia Islamia will no longer have to appear for a separate entrance examination with the varsity doing away with process and deciding to admit students through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
The JEE-Main which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is used as a selection examination for all Central government-funded technical schools, including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), while students opting for the IITs need to clear the JEE-Advanced exam.
"Jamia will be offering admission in BTech and BArch programmes for the academic session 2016-17 based on the scores of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main) - 2016 conducted by CBSE," the varsity said in a statement.
In addition to appearing in JEE (Main), the candidates are required to submit an online admission form of Jamia from December 10, 2015 to January 31, 2016.
"The admission will be strictly as per merit of JEE (Main) score and admission norms and reservation policy of Jamia," it said.
Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmad had last month said that the varsity was planning to admit BTech students through JEE and concerned authorities have been approached in this regard.
"It will not only help us deal better with chances of paper leak but also the recognition of courses offered by Jamia will improve significantly since the students will be admitted through JEE," he had said.
