The singer shared her excitement about following on from Nicole Scherzinger and Kerry Ellis in the iconic role when the musical travels to Blackpool, reported Digital Spy.
"I couldn't be more happy. This is a gift for me, it's a dream come true to be singing the most iconic musical song in the world, written by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, and being with this amazing cast of people and in my favourite theatre in the whole world which is Blackpool Opera House for the summer, it's just a gift," McDonald said.
McDonald will star in the role when 'Cats' takes on an eight-week season at Blackpool Opera House between July 9 and September 6.
The musical will then return to the London Palladium for a ten-week run from October 23, 2015 to January 2, 2016.
