Japan keen to increase cooperation in energy sector:Ambassador

Japan today said its technologies can provide solutions for challenges being faced by India in the energy sector which offers huge opportunity for cooperation.
Japanese Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu said that he is discussing with Power Minister Piyush Goyal about ways to enhance cooperation in areas like environmental equipment for coal thermal power plants, grid stabilisation, pump up storage hydro power, smart telecommunication towers, solar irrigation pumps and bio fuels.
He said that in the field of energy, there is a huge room for cooperation between the countries.
"There are many solutions that Japanese technology can provide for challenges that India faces in the field of energy," he said here.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Neemrana solar power project.
He also said that in solar power sector, Japanese cells are more efficient in terms of taking less space, light weight and last for long time and generate better in hot atmosphere like in India.

"Because it is more efficient to generate power where it is consumed, than transferring power over long distance from remote area, I expect more Japanese solar cells will be used on roof top of buildings in densely populated area in this country," he added.
Neemrana is the first industrial zone dedicated for Japanese companies. About 200 firms are present in this area.

Talking about the project here, the Ambassador said this project will demonstrate how Japanese system using solar cells and micro grid control technology can provide a solution to the problem of unstable power grid, "which is still one of the biggest investment barriers in India".
Speaking at the function, DIPP Secretary Ramesh Abhishek said that cooperation between India and Japan is increasing in areas like manufacturing and infrastructure development.
He expressed hope that the high speed train project would soon see lot of progress.
India is also working with Japan on Japanese industrial townships, he said, adding it is in the top agenda.

DMIC Development Corporation CEO Alkesh Kumar Sharma said that 6 MW solar plant is now operational here.
"This is one of the greenest project. I am sure this project will boost industrial development of this region," he added.
