The brand's creative director Alessandro Michele hired the actor-singer to star in its ad campaign to be shot in Venice, Italy, reported Aceshowbiz.
Details are scarce about this engagement but Leto, 43, is expected to reveal more when he takes over Gucci's Snapchat account in the next few days.
The "Dallas Buyers Club" star had it announced on Instagram along with an artsy post of himself. "Taking over @gucci Snapchat for next three days come say hi xoxoxo #GuiltyNotGuilty," he wrote.
Leto is taking over the duty as Gucci fragrance ambassador from Chris Evans. The "Captain America: Civil War" star previously starred alongside Evan Rachel Wood in Guilty Black ad directed by Frank Miller.
