A Jat association today served an ultimatum demanding that a procedure for granting reservation to Jats in Central government jobs be taken up in the next Union Cabinet meeting, failing which they would start an agitation and block rail traffic from February 23.
Sarvjat Khap Panchayat, a conglomeration of several Khap panchayats, demanded that a notification regarding the reservation be issued before the Lok Sabha elections, failing which they would oppose Congress candidates in the polls, and deny them entry into their villages.
The association warned that if government took no action on their ultimatum, they would block trains going towards Delhi from Haryana.
The Panchayat also said that caste-based quota should continue.
About 50 representatives of various Khaps of the state participated in the meeting. Nafe Singh Nain, President of Binain Khap, presided over the meeting.
