Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM) today agreed to a proposal of forming an alliance for contesting the Assam and West Bengal assembly polls, due next year.
A decision in this regard was taken following a meeting between Marandi and JDP President Salkhan Murmu here.
In a press statement, Murmu said Marandi has principally agreed to the proposal and both the party leaders will deliberate upon it soon to give it a concrete shape.
Murmu said the JVM leader also agreed to be the chief guest at a public meeting, to be organized by JDP and its wing Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan (ASA) at Srirampur village in Kokrajhar district of Assam on November 24 next.
JDP and ASA have been observing November 24 as "black day" to protest the brutal killings of advasis and insult to adivasi girl Laxmi Oraon, who was stripped during a rally in Guwahati on 24th November, 2006.
Referring to the assembly poll in West Bengal and Assam scheduled to be held next year, Murmu said he would try to invite All India United Democratic Front leader Badruddin Ajmal of Assam to the Srirampur meeting and discuss about the possible alliance in the assembly poll in the states.
