A junior engineer of Mango Notified Area was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe from a person here for sanctioning his building plan, a senior ACB official said here Wednesday.
The Superintendent of Police (ACB, Kolhan Bureau), Deepak Kumar Sinha, said that the engineer, identified as Roshan Ranjan, was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant, Mohammad Jamal-u-din, on Tuesday.
The engineer was posted at Mango Notified Area Committee, he said.
Sinha said Jamal-u-din had applied for approval of design for construction of a floor on his house but the accused had demanded Rs 25,000 for the job.
He agreed to approve the design for Rs 5,000 on the condition that the rest amount should be paid later. The engineer kept the approval pending for the last four months, Sinha said.
Unwilling to pay bribe, Jamal-u-din registered a complaint with the ACB on Monday and on verification the allegations were found to be true and ACB registered an FIR and arrested Roshan while accepting the cash, the SP said.
Following a search conducted in the house of Roshan, the ACB recovered Rs 1.5 lakh, Sinha said adding interrogation was on.
