Jeera prices fell by 1.83 per cent to Rs 18,495 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators booked profits at prevailing levels amid demand in the spot market against adequate stocks.
However, expectations of lower output due to unseasonal rains in major growing regions capped the fall.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in June fell by Rs 345, or 1.83 per cent, to Rs 18,495 per quintal with an open interest of 8,649 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in May moved down by Rs 310, or 1.68 per cent, to Rs 18,150 per quintal in 20,115 lots.
Analysts said besides profit-booking by speculators at existing levels, fall in demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position, kept pressure on jeera prices at futures trade.
