Assam Director General of Police Khagen Sarmah today said jehadis are posing serious threat to the north eastern region.
"Jehadis are posing serious threat to the north east. As fundamentalist groups are more dangerous than other outfits we have been monitoring the matter very seriously and taking every possible initiative to combat the threat," Sarmah said during his visit here.
He also urged ULFA(I) 'commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah to come forward to join the mainstream as there is no example in the world where war or terrorism has resulted in anything positive.
"Baruah's process will not solve any problem of the region and he should come forward for talks," he said.
The state police chief was here to attend the review meeting of Unified Command's strategy group meeting held at the Gajraj Corps here.
The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the state with specific reference to militant outfits in BTAD and Karbi Anglong and resolved to thwart their activities and propaganda firmly.
It was chaired by Assam Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia and attended by GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen Sarath Chand, home commissioner L S Changsan and other senior officers from the state government, army and paramilitary Forces.
