Jet Airways today operated three flights to Kathmandu -- two from Delhi and one from Mumbai-- while budget carrier IndiGo sent its first cargo shipment carrying relief material for 500 families.
Since the tragic earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, Jet Airways has flown over 800 people from Kathmandu back to India, the airline said.
"To facilitate travel of guests to and from Kathmandu, Jet Airways continue to sell seats at the lowest fare on its direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Kathmandu up to May 10," the airline said in a release.
Meanwhile, IndiGo said it operated scheduled and additional flights from Delhi to Kathmandu today.
"IndiGo's first flight from Delhi to Kathmandu touched down
at 14:43hrs with 134 passengers on board. IndiGo also operated its rescue flight to Kathmandu and ensured seamless travel of 172 passengers without any charge. Materials such as food, water and medicines were administered to passengers onboard," the airline said.
While the total shipment consisting of relief material weighs six tons, the airline sent one ton today, along with excess fuel on the rescue flight, it said.
"We are standing with Nepal to ensure we do our bit in these tough times. We are supporting and assisting all the relief and rescue operations with an additional flight, to help evacuate passengers from Nepal. IndiGo staff will continue to coordinate with the local airport managers and help passengers fly safe," the airline said.
