Jharkhand spinner Samar Quadri polished off Goa's tail, grabbing last four wickets quickly, to bundle out the hosts for 215 in their first innings and enforce a follow-on on the third and penultimate day of their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match here today.
Following on, Goa reached 161 for five in their second innings, trailing Jharkhand, who had scored 385 in their first essay, by nine runs with five wickets remaining.
Resuming on 106 for five in their first innings, Goa added 109 runs to their overnight total, losing five wickets in the process.
Overnight batsmen Keenan Vaz (31) and V A Naik (21) put on 39 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was caught by S P Gautam off Shahbaz Nadeem at the team score of 141.
His dismissal opened the floodgates as Quadri spun the web around the home team's tail to claim the remaining four wickets and forced them to follow on, after taking vital 170-run first innings lead.
Quadri finished the first innings with figures of four for 64, while R R Singh, Varun Aaron and Shahbaz Nadeem took two wickets each.
Quadri (3/51) continued his good work in the Goa's second essay as well, as he once once again tormented the home team batsmen by claiming the wickets of Swapnil Asnodkar (38), Sagun Kamat (36) and Rohan Belekar (9) in quick succession to have them reeling at 130 for four.
He also had opener Amogh Asnodkar run out on 26. He had earlier retired hurt on 19.
Darshan Misal (25), who was looked settled, was clean bowled by Shahbaz Nadeem for 23.
At stumps, Vaz (23), who showed resistance in the first innings, yet gain remained not out on 23 along with S R Dongre (1).
