Nine persons were killed and eight others injured when a vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle near Adharma village in Simdega district, police said today.
While state's Chief Minister Raghubar Das has announced one lakh rupees each to the bereaved families, the Simdega administration has also given Rs 20,000 to the family of accident victims, an official release said.
The bus, which was on its way from Kamdara in Gumla district to Simdega, overturned yesterday night as the driver lost control on the steering, police said.
Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Kumar said that seven people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
Three passengers, who were seriously injured, have been referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, the officer said.
