Since pollution is a serious issue, a committee would be set up to look into it and action would be initiated on the basis of its report, state Agriculture Minister Randhir Singh said in reply to a question in the Assembly on the last day of the Winter Session.
His reply came after a query in this regard by BJP MLA Biranchi Narayan who demanded action against the 'erring' industries and officials.
Suggesting setting up of water treatment plant in Bokaro district, Narayan said, people of four to five villages in the district were using contaminated water and facing health hazard.
Another BJP MLA Radhakrishna Kishore pointed out that a report has already found power stations exceeding the ash effluent limit and he demanded action against them.
In a written reply, the government said direction has been issued to Tenughat Power Thermal Station to maintain the prescribed ash effluent limit.
Similarly, CTO (Consent to Operate) has not been granted to Patratu Thermal Power Station as it failed to comply with a direction to submit a work plan in setting up Dry Fly Ash Collection System, the reply stated.
