Jijo T George wins best performer trophy of Southern Command

Lieutenant Commander Jijo T George won the prestigious Admiral GM Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy for the best performance during the year-long Naval Warfare Specialisation Courses conducted by Southern Naval Command.
The officer specialises in 'Anti-Submarine Warfare' and has won the award amongst all the officers undergoing different specialisations such as 'Communication and Electronic Warfare', 'Navigation and Direction' and 'Gunnery and Missile Warfare'.
Lieutenant Commanders CVK Srinivas, Syam Tulasi and Udit Chaudhary were declaredrunners up.
The trophy was presented by the officiating Flag officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Rear Admiral SK Grewal, VSM.
Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Grewal emphasised that the specialist officers armed with theoretical knowledge would now have to hone their professional skills on board fleet ships even as they mentor subordinate officers.

Susheel Hiranandani, wife of late Vice Admiral GM Hiranandani, in whose memory the trophy has been instituted, was present during the ceremony. Besides, Manick Hiranandani and Meera Sanyal, son and daughter, respectively, of the late Admiral, witnessed the event.
The Admiral GM Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy was instituted in the year 2013 in memory of the late Admiral, who retired as the Vice Chief of the Navy in 1989 and had served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
Post his retirement, as the official historian of the Indian Navy, he chronicled Indian Navy's history in three acclaimed volumes - Transition to Triumph, Transition to Eminence and Transition to Guardianship.
