The approval for recruitment was accorded at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
"The Cabinet approved special dispensation for recruitment of teachers on the Rehbar-e-Taleem pattern in socially and educationally backward areas and near the Line of Actual Control, as identified under the J&K Reservation Rules," an official spokesman said after the meeting.
The spokesman said the Cabinet extended the validity for filling up regular vacancies of teachers retrospectively with effect from August 4 last year till date and for the period of two years with effect from today.
The validity of that government order had expired on August 4 last year, he added.
Rehbar-e-Taleem was a scheme introduced in 1998 for recruitment of teachers in primary schools across the state.
