A JNU student allegedly committed suicide after attempting to kill a girl who spurned him, police said today.
Police however claims it to be a case of one-sided love.
According to police both Akash (23) and Roshni (22) are BA students of the School of Language in JNU. The incident took place in the room number 213 of the university.
After a heated argument this morning, the boy first hit her multiple times using an axe and then attempted to kill himself by consuming Salphas tablets. He further tried to slit his throat.
Police have recovered knife, a Salphas bottle and the axe used in the crime from the spot. Besides, a country-made pistol has also been recovered from the spot.
The boy was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead while the girl has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
Dr BD Athani, medical superintendent of Safdarjung hospital
said that the girl has received multiple injuries on scalp and is being examined by a group of neuro surgeons.
Her condition he said, is gradually improving.
"She has received multiple injuries on her scalp and radiological investigations are being carried out by neuro surgeons examining her. The patient is being monitored constantly and she is gradually stabilising," Athani said.
