Joaquin Phoenix on avoiding big budget movies

Joaquin Phoenix says he avoids starring in big budget superhero movies because the standard of acting gets affected due to the huge money involved in making them.
The 'Her' actor, who currently stars in Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Inherent Vice', a 1960s, Los Angeles-set story about a drug addled detective, says he is mainly interested in the director and his part while selecting a role.
"Obviously the more money at stake, the more expectations there are to make that back, right? So you start lowering your standards. You try to appeal to as wide a market as possible. I think that's why typically I haven't done bigger movies," he told the Guardian.

But that does not mean he is not open to a superhero movie, provided it is not run-of-the-mill.
"In a superhero movie it's typically good guy and bad guy, and bad guy attacks. Well, in real life evil seduces," Phoenix said.
