The agitation by Jadavpur University students is spreading wings, as the ex-students of the renowned institution have planned to hold demonstrations in some of the major cities of the world.
An agitation has been lined up for September 27 in New York's Washington Square Park, Swastik Basu, an alumnus of JU based in the US, proclaimed in his Facebook page.
A Facebook page of an alumnus said "New York Protests Against State-Authority Endorsed Police Atrocity on the students & State Sponsored Cadre hooliganism in Jadavpur University. A protest Demonstration on Saturday, 27th September at Washington Square Park, New York."
Similar demonstrations are planned to be staged in the UK, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Norway, Bangkok and many other countries of the world.
"For us JU is not just an university but an idea and those who are trying to destroy that idea will face our protest," said Nitish, an alumnus of JU, based in Paris in his Facebook post.
A forum has been created by the JU alumni based in foreign countries named, "JU Alumni Forum For Campus Democracy". Talks are on with the alumni settled in Atlanta, Boston, Paris and Dubai to hold worldwide demonstrations.
In a general body meeting today led by Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union (FETSU) of the university, it was decided that the agitating students take advice from the alumni spread across the world to chalk out the future course of action.
