Judicial First class Magistrate commits suicide

A day after he was suspended from service by the Kerala High Court following allegations of misconduct, a Judicial First class Magistrate here allegedly committed suicide today by hanging at his official residence here, police said.
The 48-year-old magistrate, V K Unnikrishnan, had been suspended by the High Court on the basis of an inquiry report by the District Magistrate, Kasaragod, High Court sources said.
Two cases had been registered against him under various IPC sections including criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint for allegedly assaulting an auto-rickshawdriver and police personnel in an 'inebriated'
condition atSullia in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district on November 6.

He was out on bail.
The Magistrate allegedly took the extreme step after sending his relative, whowas staying with him, for getting tea, police said.

On his return, the relative found the room locked from inside following which he alerted neighbours and the magistrate's colleagues. Police broke open the door and found his body hanging in his room.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him 'brought dead', police said.
Unnikrishnan is survived by wife and two children, police said.
