In a bid to check prices of onions and potatoes in the national Capital, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today flagged off the convoy of six vehicles carrying these food crops which will be directly retailed to consumers in different parts of the city at competitive prices.
At a function held at the Raj Niwas this morning, Jung flagged off the mobile vans delivering onions and potatoes directly to consumers.
"Onions and potatoes will be directly retailed to consumers in different parts of the city at competitive prices through these vans," said a statement released by L-G House.
The statement also said that the produce will be sold in pre-packed and loose form to consumers through these vans in different localities of Delhi and several Resident Welfare Associations have also come forward to coordinate the movement of these vans in their respective areas.
"Agriculture Marketing Board (DAMB) and the Small Farmers' Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India. As part of this arrangement, Small Farmers' Agribusiness Consortium is sourcing onions and potatoes directly from the farmers through its network of Farmer Producer Organizations, while the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board has made available required mobile vans," statement said.
It also said that the government has been successful in keeping the prices of onions and potatoes under check through these and other initiatives.
