The 20-year-old Canadian singer posted a picture of himself, with a caption explaining that his break from the spotlight has been "for a reason".
"My break is for a reason. You will soon see... Thank you for your patience," he wrote.
Bieber hasn't had a complete break from music, having released a duet with Cody Simpson called 'Home to Mama'.
He has also recorded vocals for a house and trap remix of Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass'.
The singer recently lost more than 3.5 million fake Instagram followers in a mass clear-out by the social media site.
