Five accused, including Piyush Shyam Dasani, the son of a UP biscuit baron and the husband of the victim, were today remanded in one day's police custody in connection with the murder of the 28-year-old Jyoti Dasani.
The court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate here allowed police to question Jyoti's husband Piyush and the other accused -- driver Awadesh and three accomplices.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Kanpur SSP KS Emanuel said police wanted to question the accused together. Therefore, Swaroopnagar police had sought the custody of all the accused, including Piyush's woman friend, on one day's conditional remand.
IG (Kanpur Zone) Ashutosh Pandey said that the court, however, reserved its decision regarding the sending of Piyush's woman friend to police custody.
Following the hearing, the court allowed police 24-hours' custody of the five accused. The remand period started at 12 noon today and ends at the same time tomorrow.
Police, meanwhile, said they have recovered the weapon used in the crime.
Piyush, was arrested after he confessed to have got Jyoti,
his wife, killed with the help of his driver as he was having relations with another woman. Jyoti's body, bearing multiple stab wounds, was found inside Dasani's car on July 28 in Panki area of Kanpur.
