The New Delhi District Courts complex was the epicentre of today's judicial and political activities as the persons in black robes defied unprecedented security measures, which was put in place following the February 15 incidents and launched yet another attack on the accused and some scribes.
The JNU student Union leader was brought to the court on expiry of his police custody remand amid unprecedented security around 2.35 pm and the moment he alighted from the police van a unruly mob of lawyers pounced on him and the escorting policemen.
The student leader, who is facing sedition charge for allegedly raising anti-India slogans, had a tough time when an unidentified man tried to attack him again in the adjacent court room.
During the proceedings, policemen claimed they have saved Kanhaiya from being attacked again. However, this was controverted by the lawyers of the student leader who alleged before the magistrate that their client was attacked even before police officials.
As soon as the proceedings commenced at 3 pm, Kanhaiya, who was later sent to judicial custody till March 2, said he has not committed any crime and has faith in Constitution.
"If I am a traitor, please send me to jail if there is any evidence against me. But if there is no evidence against me then why this media trial is going on," he told the court.
