BJP workers today gheraoed the Kanpur University Vice Chancellor after the varsity failed to provide the MA degree records of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Vice Chancellor Jayant Vinayak Vaishampayan was confronted by BJP Kanpur chief Surendra Maithani, MLA Salil Vishnoi and a dozen other party workers after the university maintained that they did not possess the post-graduation degree of the former PM.
Vaishampayan clarified that Vajpayee did his MA in Political Science from Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College (DAV) in around 1950.
He said that Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University or the Kanpur University was only established in 1966.
The DAV college was under the Agra University when the honorable former PM passed out, he said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Maithani stated that they had approached the DAV college as well as the Kanpur University for the said records but did not get a favorable reply.
We had to confront the VC who assured us that inquiries will be made to the Agra University by him to get the records.
While Professor Vaishampayan wondered why was the party making a hue and cry over the records after so many years, the BJP workers have threatened to launch an agitation in the campus if the records are not found at the earliest.
