Weeks after Alagiri made public his displeasure over 'neglect' of his recommendations for party posts in the youth wing headed by his brother, Karunanidhi said Stalin had only tried to ensure family members of senior leaders were kept away from occupying key responsibilities.

Coming out with his views on Alagiri's outbursts, seen as an indication of simmering sibling rivarly, Karunanidhi said in party mouthpiece 'Murasoli' that in the midst of various responsibilities as Youth Wing Secretary, Stalin had visited every district and selected people after diligent interviews.

"In this, particularly he kept strictly the age criteria and ensured that family members of senior leaders did not get a place in the Youth Wing organisational posts", he said noting no appointments were made based on recommendations from district secretaries or other functionaries.

Last month, Alagiri said he had recommended some names for office-bearers of party wings, but they had not been considered though he was the DMK Souther Zone Organising Secretary.

Responding to Alagiri, Stalin had said the selection was held in proper manner and his brother's views only endorsed his stand that there was no interference in selection of office-bearers.
