The student, identified as Mohammed Safi, was studying in Class 11 in Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kamla Nehru Nagar of Ghaziabad.
His father, an Army man, lives with his family in Leh of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Around 12.30 AM last night, he suddenly fell from the second floor of the hostel building. He was immediately rushed to the nearby Sarvodaya Hospital. He died around 6 AM today," said a senior police officer.
The police officer said it was yet to be ascertained whether he jumped off or it was an accident or somebody pushed him from the balcony.
He said police had sent his body for medical examination, and added Safi's parents had been informed about the incident. Police are investigating the case, he said.
