: Facing severe criticism, Congress led UDF government in Kerala today decided not to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court supporting the implementation of Aadhar for availing various subsidy benefits till people's apprehensions on the issue were resolved.
Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said the Advocate General had been instructed not to submit the affidavit now.
He pointed out that reports appearing in media in this regard was based on affidavit prepared by officials and it had not been discussed in the cabinet.
A decision would be taken only after the matter was taken up the in the cabinet, he said, adding that if necessary, it would seek more time to file the affidavit in the Apex Court.
Kunhalikutty's clarification came in the wake of reports that the government has decided to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court, endorsing the importance of Aadhar for availing benefits like cooking gas subsidy.
The State's decision was in response to Apex Court's interim order directing states to explain their stand in this regard.
