Kerala Soaps, a subsidiary of Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited, has more than trebled its sales turnover to Rs 10 crore in 2013-14, up from Rs three crore in 2010-11.
Speaking to reporters here, M C Mayin Haji, KSIE Managing Director said the sales turnover of the company was Rs three crore in 2010-11 and had gone up to Rs 10 crore in 2013-14.
The net profit during the 2013-14 financial year was Rs 16 lakh, he said.
The company manufactures premium soaps like Kerala Sandal, Thrill, Vep, Kairali and Coaltar, which are available in all shops in the state and also in the neighbouring Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, he said.
Haji claimed KSIE has achieved a rare feat by finding a market for its toilet soaps in quality conscious Japan. The products are also being exported to Gulf countries, he said.
There was also an enquiry from Canada for its products, he said.
On other projects, he said KSIE would soon team up with Airports Authority of India to set up an international air cargo terminal with extension to Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram airports.
Another one is a modern High-tech shopping mall in Thiruvananthapuram at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore, in partnership with public sector Infrastructure Builder Inkel. Work on the Mall would start this financial year, he said.
