"At night, the kingpin, Rocky and his aides would wait for the Kanpur-bound trains to stop at the signal at Jhakarkati bridge near Central railway station for some time and would then carry out the robbery," DSP Circle officer (GRP) Surendra Tiwari said.
Acting on this information, last night a trap was laid out to nab them but the robbers opened fired on the police on being intercepted. Rocky alias Munna was arrested while his accomplices managed to escape, Tiwari added.
Rocky a native of Unnao district, was recently released from jail, and was carrying out criminal activities from Kanpur.
Police said the investigation was on and Rocky was being interrogated to extract details about his absconding accomplices.
