Nepal's new Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will embark on his first overseas visit to Myanmar on Sunday to attend a regional summit.
Koirala will be in the Southeast Asian nation for the Third Summit Meeting of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), being held in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar from March 1 to 4.
This will be Koirala's first foreign visit after forming the government on February 11.
Koirala will depart on Sunday to attend the event, said Basanta Gautam, Chief secretary of the Prime Minister's secretariat.
Koirala will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Mahendra Pandey and other senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.
The Prime Minister will hold meetings with head of states and governments during the visit, said official sources.
Koirala is also likely to meet Noble laureate and top democratic leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
The BIMSTEC is a grouping of Asian countries which includes Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand as members.
The First and Second BIMSTEC Summits were held in Thailand in 2004 and India in 2008.
