The post-graduate student was found hanging in her hostel room yesterday. Later, a purported suicide note was recovered from the room, police said today.
In the suicide note, she accused one of her classmates of sexually harassing her by sending messages over mobile phone and making phone calls pressurising her for marriage which led her to take the extreme step, Investigating Officer of the case ASI Kuldeep Singh said.
The victim's and the accused's mobiles would be checked for further leads in the case, the IO said.
Police said that before taking the extreme step the girl had called up her mother on phone in a village near Pehowa and asked her to come to her hostel immediately.
Her father has gone to the USA to seek a job so her mother and her brother rushed to the hostel where she found her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan, they said.
The hostel's Chief Warden, Sushma Sharma, said the girl had earlier told her parents about then harassment and her father tried to talk to the boy in this regard but she did not tell her teachers or the warden about it.
According to her friends, she decided to tell her teacher about the harassment yesterday but could not do so due to some reason and returned to her hostel room in the afternoon.
