Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) chief and Union minister Upendra Kushwaha today met BJP president Amit Shah amid reports that he was unhappy with the senior ally over political equations in Bihar.
Though it was not clear what transpired at the meeting, RLSP sources said the two leaders discussed the political situation in Bihar. Bypolls to one Lok Sabha and two Assembly seats are scheduled to be held in the state next month.
The RLSP is peeved after it was announced that the JD(U) will field its candidate from the Jahanabad Assembly seat. The seat was allotted to Kushwaha's party in the 2015 Bihar Assembly polls by the BJP-led NDA. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) was not a part of the NDA then and had a tie-up with the RJD and Congress.
The RJD candidate had won the seat in 2015. The bypoll was necessitated due to his death.
BJP sources said the seat could not be allotted to the RLSP as Jahanabad MP Arun Kumar, who enjoyed a considerable influence in the region, had parted ways with Kushwaha and thus, the saffron party pursuaded the JD(U) to field its candidate.
Speculation over Kushwaha's future move is rife on account of his rivalry with Kumar.
