India's Anirban Lahiri heaved a sigh of relief after he was confirmed for the 146th Open Championships by the Royal and Ancient today.
The official news came in just as Lahiri was getting ready for the Hero Challenge and the Scottish Open.
The Indian ace, who turned 30 less than two weeks ago, will be making his fourth successive and overall the fifth appearance at the world's oldest Major.
"That's a huge relief after missing out on the first two Majors. The news spurs me on for the Scottish Open that follows the Hero Challenge this evening," said Lahiri.
Lahiri had played 10 Majors in a row from the 2014 Open onwards before missing out on the Masters and US Open this year. He is also confirmed for the PGA Championships next month.
Lahiri will now join Shiv Kapur as the second player at this year's Open and it will be the first time both of them will be playing at the same time. They have, however, played at the US Open together in 2015.
Speaking about his Open record, Lahiri added, "I played at the Troon last year and had two good opening rounds but things did not go well over the weekend. Hopefully I can change that this time."
This will be the 12th Major appearance for Lahiri, who has made a cut in six of them. Lahiri's best in a Major is T-5 at the 2015 PGA Championships and his best at the Open is T-30 in 2015.
The record for most Major appearances is held by Jeev Milkha Singh, who has played 14 Majors and made eight cuts. His best is T-9 at the 2008 PGA Championships being his best.
