A powerful landmine was detected by the security personnel during an anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda forest in adjoining West Singhbhum district today, a senior police officer said.
The recovery was made when the security personnel were on a combing operation in the naxal-affected Saranda forest, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Kiriburu) R M Bakhla.
Bakhla said the landmine, weighing around 15 kg, was planted on the Karampada-Kiriburu road under Kiriburu police station area to target the security personnel.
Later, the bomb disposal squad defused the explosive in the jungle.
The explosive was recovered a day after the Director General of Police, Jharkhand, Rajeev Kumar led an anti-Naxal operation deep inside the Saranda forest.
Kumar had spent several hours in the forest to motivate the security personnel amid inclement weather condition.
