BJP today granted a ticket for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls to Ashok Rohani, a day after the death of his father, state Assembly Speaker Ishwar Dass Rohani.
Rohani's name, along with that of Rajya Sabha MP Maya Singh, was one of the 72 declared by the party today as part of its second and third list of candidates for the November 25 Assembly elections in the state.
The party also declared the names of seven candidates for the Mizoram Assembly polls, also slated to be held on November 25.
Rohani will contest from the Jabalpur Cantonment Assembly seat, which was so far represented by his late father, while Singh will stand for election from the Gwalior East Assembly constituency.
A meeting of the party's Central Election Committee here today was chaired by BJP President Rajnath Singh and attended by senior party leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
Among the total candidates declared today for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, 14 belong to Scheduled Castes and 15 from Scheduled Tribes.
At least five Ministers and 17 sitting MLAs were given poll tickets. Fifteen former MLAs, too, were given tickets.
Among the sitting Ministers granted a poll ticket were Narayan Singh Khushwaha from Gwalior South, KL Aggarwal from Bamori, Dashrath Lodhi from Jabera, Manohar Utwar from Agar (SC) and Ranjana Baghel from Manawar (ST).
Meanwhile, the party's Central Election Committee also declared the name of former MLA Chandrakant Patil as its candidate for the Graduates Constituency in the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad.
